Virginia Mentoring Partnership Announces 10th Annual Outstanding Mentoring Award Winners
VMP will honor two individuals and two mentoring programs in Virginia that have made outstanding contributions by changing the lives of children and youth through mentoring.
The Individual award recipients are:
• Alicia Meyer (Blackwell Elementary School, CIS of Richmond - The Micah Initiative) – Meyer is a mentoring classroom assistant and volunteer leader at Blackwell Elementary School in Richmond through Communities in Schools of Richmond. She recruits and coordinates volunteer opportunities through the Micah Initiative and created “Fun Saturday,” “Math Facts” and other enrichment programs for students.
• Bruce Lalonde (Team Up Mentoring, The Up Center Portsmouth) – Lalonde serves as president and CEO of the USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia and has been a committed mentor and positive influence to two young men through the Up Center in Portsmouth since 2008.
Program award recipient are:
• AMP! Metro Richmond (Richmond) – Originating in 2006, AMP! is a school-based mentoring program with mentors from Richmond corporations, government agencies and small businesses who provide support, friendship, reinforcement and a constructive example to middle school students.
• Virginia Mentoring Coalition (Hampton) – The Virginia Mentoring Coalition is a unifying body of collaborative partnerships committed to providing high-quality mentoring services to children impacted by incarceration and within the juvenile justice system.
Award recipients will be recognized at the 10th Annual Virginia Mentoring Awards at 11:30 AM on Friday, March 2 at the Jefferson Hotel in downtown Richmond.
