Founded in 1993 and providing training since 1995, VMP has prepared more than 30,000 volunteers for their roles as mentors and tutors. Additionally, VMP has provided program support to school districts and individual schools that house school-based mentoring/tutoring programs. By training thousands of volunteers annually, VMP promotes high quality mentoring relationships that research shows yields positive effects on youth.

Beyond training volunteers, VMP has provided services promoting Best Practices for Operating Effective Mentoring Programs to more than 800 organizations in every region in the Commonwealth. This includes hundreds of hours annually of program assistance, annual Regional Training Institutes, and a comprehensive resource library translating research into effective practice.

By promoting Best Practices and strong, long-term mentoring relationships, Virginia Mentoring Partnership continues to have an exponential impact on Virginia's youth.
